I can't believe it's been over two weeks since my last post. I should have lots of exciting stories to share, right? Sorry to disappoint, but we've just been trying to live life one day at a time!
Spike is doing really well. He has really settled into our family, and most of the time I can't even remember what it was like without him here. He has been with us for 5 weeks now, and his personality has really come out. He is a happy, silly, persistent little guy, who will try to eat anything...even things I never knew were edible. Examples: chair leg, rug corner, my toes, the list goes on!
Spike is still having trouble sleeping, although he no longer seems to be grieving. We decided to try to put him in his crib this weekend since he (we) aren't getting much sleep anyway. He pretty much has the same issues in the crib as he has on the mattress so we're going to keep him in his new digs. At least then if he wakes up when we're in the bathroom or something, we know he can't hurt himself! I think eventually we will have to teach him how to sleep and self soothe. It's not something I'm looking forward to, but we had to do the same thing with Monkey.
Monkey has been slowly getting better with Spike. Although he still loses patience with his little brother, I'm starting to realize that this is pretty normal behavior for a 2 year old. The thing that is making me feel better, is that he hugs him more often, and always wants to know where Spike is (even if he doesn't want to share his toys!).
Monkey also had some minor surgery today. He had a new set of tubes put in his ears and had his adnoids removed. The doctor said that his right ear was very infected and his adnoids were pretty large. He probably hasn't been feeling so well these last few weeks either, which hasn't helped with his adjustment to his brother:).
All in all, we are doing well here. It is unbelievable to me that I have two such precious little boys in my life. They keep me busy and happy, and I couldn't ask for much more...except maybe that the weather starts getting a little nicer! We do have a little cabin fever!!!

I think that the kids are both doing amazing...its only been 5 weeks!
So sorry to hear about Monkey's ears, but glad that everything has been taken care of and he's doing better.
I hope your sleep issues improve really soon and that we get to leave the house in the very near future!
Glad to hear you guys are doing well!
SO happy to hear from you! It sounds like everyone is getting adjusted and settling in well.
I hope Monkey is feeling ok today!
The pictures in this post are so sweet!
Poor Monkey! I'm glad to hear that he is feeling better now.
I'm glad to hear that your boys are getting more and more used to each other. We are looking to have little brothers close in age similar to Monkey and Spike, so I am sure I will be hitting you up for advice a few years from now. :)
Hope Monkey is feeling better. Julia was so much better once her adenoids came out.....and I really enjoyed the stinky breath LOL....
The sleeping will get better. It took Max about 3 months to finally be able to be put in bed in his own room without the fuss. He has been home a year and we sometimes still have relapses :).....
Monkey only sees that this new kid has taken Mom and Dad's attention that has only and always been focused on him. That is a hard thing for a 2 year old. Believe me my now 5 year old still has heated arguements with the almost 2 year old about getting into her stuff... she was the baby you know (her words)...
Hang in there know that you aren't the only one that has been there and it will get better. and believe me before you know it one will be heading to Kindergarten and you will ask yourself where did the time go......
they both are cuties ;)
I'm glad Monkey is feeling better.
Praying that the sleeping gets better. Hopefully we will see 50 this week...
hey Kara,
Thanks for posting...I love to see photos of your little guys!
It took Alex about 6 weeks to get into a sleeping routine. We tried everything under the sun, and finally, one day, one of our 'methods' worked! Now he sleeps thru the night, for 11 hours straight. alleluia! When he first came home, he would cry in our arms for up to two hours. He would also wake up several times in the middle of the night. I don't want to give unsolicited advice, but if you'd like to know what worked, and what didn't work for us, you're welcome to email me: michelle@hearts-content.com
Have a great time with your new family of four! Michelle (and Stefan)
