Now that I'm back working full time, the excitement of the weekend is back in full force. And I can't believe how happy it makes me when we have an extra day off.
We had a lot of fun this weekend just being together as a family. Since I ran a half marathon on Monday (VERY hilly by the way), we really didn't make any official plans. It was so nice to have an entire weekend to do whatever we wanted, whenever we felt like it.
On Saturday, we headed out to the Lincoln Park Zoo. We decided to stop by Uncle Jeffy's place first so the boys could see all of the buildings and trains from his 22nd floor condo. We even went up to the roof (safely fenced off) to get a bird's eye view of the city. It was very beautiful, and the boys loved watching the busy streets. We headed on out to the zoo, and had a great time. It was such a beautiful place, with so many animals to see and so much to do. I think Monkey and Spike's favorite things were the train ride and merry-go-round though. Go figure.
On Sunday, we tried to go to a state park to do a little hiking but it started to rain. We ended up at the pet store visiting some more animals. After naptime, the weather cleared up and we were able to play outside the rest of the day.
Monday was race day. and my family came to cheer me on at the finish line. Since the first race I ever ran (well before I was married or thinking about having kids) I always wanted to have my children be at the end of the race...someday. When we were going through our struggles building our family, and I was continuing to run, I always held onto that as one of my small dreams. And Monday, it finally came true. It was such a motivator the last few miles, knowing that I was going to see those little faces at the finish. Monkey loved everything about it, and asked me if I could run another race so he could cheer, "Hip Hip Hooray Mama!" again. Now that's the best reason yet to start training again!
I hope everyone was able to enjoy some time with the people you love this past weekend. It sure put me in a good mood!
