Everyday Surprises

Although the transition back to work has been tough, I am constantly reminded why I come to school each day. For those of you who don't know, I teach 4th and 5th grade special education. Yesterday, while we were playing a getting to know you game, one of the questions was "What is your favorite food?" Most of the students answers were the obvious...pizza, hot dogs, etc. Then one of my guys thought for a minute and said, "Anything from the meat section of the food pyramid." I love the way their brains work. Many times it's not what you'd expect, but more often than not, the kids come up with the most creative responses to everyday questions!

On the home front, I am also surprised and amazed every day by my son. On Monday, while I was singing the ABC's to him, I got distracted and stopped in the middle. The next thing I know he picked up where I left off, and even tried to sing the "Now I know my ABC's part." He did the same thing when we were counting the stairs on our way up to his room. It's truly amazing watching him turn into a little person!

Its the little, everyday things I love most about being a mom...like watching your child learn something new.
