We Survived Another Week!

Wish I could say the same for my house!

This was the first week I was home alone with my boys since we brought Spike home. It was definitely not without some challenges, but everything went really well for the most part! How could it not...I was with two of the people I love most in the world.

Truth be told, I had some visitors over to break up some of the days which was great. Plus, since the weather was so cold at the beginning of the week, it was nice to have something to look forward to. Spike did pretty well with all the company. He is a quiet observer when other's are around, and likes to just take it all in. When we are home alone though, it's another story. He loves to be held, but also explores the house and gets into everything. We've already had to move about 3 pieces of furniture into the basement because of his curiosity! (a wine rack, candle stand, etc.)

He also LOVES to eat. Anything. There isn't a crumb or piece of lint that goes unnoticed by our little guy. My floors have never been so clean. I am constantly chasing the kids around with our dustbuster to make sure he doesn't chew on something laying on the floor. It's so strange for us, because Monkey had eating issues, and never put anything in his mouth, food or otherwise. What a difference!

Speaking of Monkey. He has been adjusting better each day. Although I still feel like a referee half the time! The last few days have been the best. He has been tolerating his little brother more and more each day, and will even try to play with him and share his toys once in a while. We laugh because we are sure that Spike is learning his name from the number of times Monkey tells him NO!

We're still working on the sleeping issue. Spike has done better the last few nights, but we're still looking forward to the day we can get more than 2 hours of sleep at a time. We have two mattresses set up in his room. He is finally laying on them with one of us for a short while. Otherwise, he needs to be held...while we're standing. I love to cuddle, but Spike is a big boy. My back will also be happy when we can lay next to each other instead! We are seeing progress though. And we are always aware that our sweet little son has had his world turned upside down. If he needs us to hold him, we will. But don't be suprised if I throw a little party when he finally sleeps through the night (or for four hours in a row)!

Thanks for checking in with us!

We were on a "safari." (The things we come up with when we're trapped inside the house!)

Reading/chewing a book.

My two little guys getting along!

We're having more of these moments every day!

Kara,
I love the last picture of the two boys! I am glad things are still getting better and everyone is adjusting. I feel for you with the lack of sleep - I think that is one of the hardest parts of parenthood. I love reading your updates - thanks for sharing them.

Love the pictures!!!

I'm glad to hear things are slowly getting better. You both have a great attitude about the ups and downs of parenting and I'm sure that helps Monkey & Spike! I know you are tired, hoping you get some more sleep soon!

LOVE the safari idea - I'm going to add that to my winter games :)
