Children's Day

Yesterday was a national Korean holiday called Children's Day. I love the idea of this holiday...it's a day dedicated to loving and appreciating your children, and recognizing the great potential they have. I think it's amazing that my son's birth country values their little one's so much that they devote an entire day to their children. On this day in Korea, most businesses are closed and parents are encouraged to do something special with their children. The kids receive gifts and have special treats. It reminds me a little of a birthday party, only for everyone at the same time!

We celebrated Children's day with Monkey and Spike yesterday. Although I had to work (darn!), when Andy and I got home we spent the rest of the evening outside. We had a special dinner and then gave the boys their cards and presents. It was a blast, and it was fun having a "party" in the middle of the week for no other reason than to show our boys how much we love them.

Happy Belated Children's Day everyone!

The boys posing with their gifts and cards. Monkey got a dinosaur kite, and Spike got musical maracas (it was also Cinco de Mayo after all!).

I remember as a kid lamenting on Mother's Day that there was no "Kids Day", to which my parents would inevitably say "EVERY DAY is kids Day!" :)
