Good Genes

A few weeks ago, my 89 year old grandma received an amazing award from her golf league. Mammaw golfs 28 holes at least twice a week as long as the weather permits. In her head she is only 50, often referring to her golf buddies (between the ages of 60-80) as "little old ladies." She is the opposite of what you think of when imagining a grandmother. She is spunky, athletic, likes to tell dirty jokes and flirt with younger men. She is also extremely loving, generous and kind. She is definitely an inspiration to me, and I want to grow up to be just like her!

Prizes, not perils, for Pauline and Pearl

Golf truly is a lifetime sport. That’s a great reminder for anyone who has invested time in learning the game. Two lifetime golfers who learned the sport many years ago were honored at Naperbrook Golf Course on Tuesday, Sept. 14 for their long golf careers. Pauline, age 89, and Pearl, age 90, each received a Lifetime Golf Pass at both Spring*brook and Naper*brook Golf Courses, which will exempt them from greens fees at both courses Monday through Friday for the rest of their lives.
Director of Golf Ed Provow announced the honors to Pauline and Pearl as they finished the 9th hole of their weekly Ladies League play. Pauline was moved by Provow’s surprise announcement, and said that she couldn’t help tearing up a bit. This is only the second time that Spring*brook and Naper*brook have awarded a Lifetime Golf Pass. Provow said that the award is given to senior golfers who have played at Spring*brook or Naper*brook for at least 25 years.
Pauline's daughter, Paula, plays in the Tuesday morning foursome along with Pearl, Pauline, and Nell L. The other ladies in the Tuesday league were on hand to cheer the winners and enjoy celebratory cake at the Naper*brook Clubhouse.
