Happy New Year!

This past weekend we celebrated the Lunar New Year. In Korea, this is the most important holiday and is called Seollal. Families from the Rockford area, who adopted from Korea through our agency, organized the event. A special thank you to my friend Kristin for putting this together and inviting us to share in the fun. It was a very special night. I loved meeting and connecting with my online friends and seeing their beautiful children in person.

We all met at a restaurant in Rockford. The owner is Korean and prepared an amazing dinner for us, including the traditional New Year's soup called, Tteokguk. Spike loved everything, and Monkey couldn't get enough of the mandu. One of my favorite parts was seeing all the little one's in their hanboks. After dinner we did our best to take a picture of all the kids (over 20) wearing the traditional outfit donned for birthday and new year celebrations. As you can imagine, it was organized chaos. Even with Kris singing to keep their attention! Even though I didn't get a great picture, it was so cool to see all the children in their special clothes! We even got to see the special bow done by women and men on new year's in Korea. Kuma, the owner, demonstrated for all of us.

Getting together with families that are similar to ours, and speaking to other adoptive mamma's, is always a highlight for me. Each time I am lucky enough to attend one of these gatherings, I am amazed at what wonderful people the adoption world has brought into my life.

Saehae bok manhi badeuseyo! (May you receive many blessings in the New Year.)

This is about the best I could do, and it's only half the kids...but you get the picture. A ton of cuteness in one area!

This is Monkey in his hanbok. It is way to small for him, but I squeezed him into it anyway.

This is Kuma, the restaurant owner, showing us the traditional bow. I couldn't get Spike off the stage. He was mesmerized!!!

My two little peanuts involved in a very deep conversation!
