Many people have been asking about the day we got THE CALL. And even though I had pictured it in my head a million times, it's nothing like I thought it would be.

I was sitting at my desk at work eating lunch, trying to enter some student data into the computer (By now you know I'm not the most comfortable person on the computer, so I was having lots of fun...). My school phone rang and something told me to answer it, which is rare because I didn't recognize the number. Our social worker was on the other end, but I didn't think anything of it because we had been trying to finish up our homestudy paperwork and we'd had some questions. When we cleared that all up, she asked about our timeline. Andy and I had been a little worried about our financial situation, but as I told her, we had decided that if we came up on the list earlier than expected, and there was a baby for us, it was meant to be and we couldn't pass that up. She said "Okay, that's good to know. Because in that case, I have a baby for you." I almost DIED on the spot. I started crying, she was telling me information that I couldn't focus on. It was the most surreal, exciting feeling. I wrote down his name and a few more tidbits, and immediately called Andy who was at a lunch meeting. Neither of us could believe it! I don't think either of us remembers what we did the rest of the work day, but I know I taught my kids something!

So I went to pick Monkey up from daycare and when I pulled up there was an ambulance and firetruck parked in front of his teacher's house. I literally stopped my car in the middle of the street and ran inside. One of the other children had gotten her little leg stuck in the crib while she was sleeping. A scary situation, but luckily no one was really hurt. The firemen nicely asked me to move my car out of the street when I had calmed down. I had reached my quota on being shocked by then!

The next morning we drove to our agency to (finally) see pictures of our son and read the referral paperwork. The second I laid eyes on his sweet little face I fell madly in love. I can only imagine what it will be like when I meet him in person! We went through the information from Korea, and learned a little bit about him. Then we went through the piles of acceptance paperwork to be filled out. We got back in the car ready to go and tell our parents the great news, when we got a flat tire. After waiting a few hours for a tow truck and rental car, we were finally on our way. It was so fun surprising them with the news...especially since they just thought we had gotten a new car!

Today, our paperwork has officially been mailed. I'm kind of cheesy, but it makes me feel good it was sent out on a Thursday. Monkey was born on a Thursday... we got our referral call on a Thursday... so this just seems right.

Thanks to everyone for all of your well wishes. We'll keep you posted on whatever comes next!

What an adventure! I too have imagined what "THE CALL" will be like and I have to say if I got a call like that at work, I would be just as shocked as you were! What a wonderful story. Thanks so much for sharing!

At least you guys know you have good strong hearts!! Between the referral, the fire trucks and the flat tire, I'm happy you didn't have a heart attack!! Great story!
